Syllabus

The purpose of this course
is to prepare yourself for the workplace, both for your impending work
place and your future career. The course consists of three weeks of in-class
instruction followed instruction on (Slot G-day 7). During this time, we
will try to make you more aware of yourself and the workplace.
The three week in-class
sessions will consists of:

Unit I - Getting to know
yourself. At the end of this unit, you will produce a 200 word essay that
describes yourself. It will be marked for grammatically. Its value will
be 20%.

Unit II - Why Work. This
unit will endeavor to get at the reasons why you want to work. You will
also produce an essay (100 words) stating what you plan to do as a future
career, how you will get there and how will your co-op work placement help
you. Its value will be 20%.

Unit III - Resume &
cover letter. Before the end of this unit, you will produce a real resume
and a fake cover letter. The resume will be passed on to your
workplace supervisor followed by a short interview. Its value will be 20%.
The remainder of the semester
will consist of:

Units IV-VI - These units
will focus on various components of the workplace that should be aware
of both during your present work placement and your future work endeavors.
Various short activities will be done during these sessions. The value
will be 10%.

Before the end of this course
you will have to do one major project that involves the research of the
university/college you plan to attend. Further details will be given in
the future. It value will be 25%.

The final 5% will be given
for class participation.
